Featured Education Program:

What's a Photo Without the Story? How to Create Your Family Legacy

Presented by: Hazel Thornton

A professional organizer and genealogist helps you tell the stories of your photos, family, and things. Think you don't have stories to tell? Of course you do. Everyone does!

Learn more about how and why to tell family stories through photos – either for yourself or to assist your clients. Hazel will share how by using  photos and the right details you can tell stories of family, and also tell the stories of things. This program will also cover how to get started with genealogy, be resourceful and even research mystery photos and family legends. Understand how photos can help you or your client prepare to leave a legacy and not a burden. NAPO Chicago will offer a Certificate of Completion for this program.

Attendees can expect to learn:

  • Why and how to tell your family stories
  • Three levels of effort and why they're all Ok
  • Why and how you can help your clients tell their stories too!

Hazel Thornton is an author and genealogist who loves helping others to discover and tell the stories of their photos, families, and things! She is a veteran NAPO member and owner of Organized For Life and Beyond.

During her professional organizing career, she decluttered homes and offices and created organizing systems and ideal schedules. But it was photo organizing that eventually rekindled her love of genealogy research. She also became interested in end-of-life matters, which include downsizing and making decisions now so your loved ones won’t have to later. All her experience and interests dovetailed in the form of her 2021 book, What’s a Photo Without the Story? How to Create Your Family Legacy.

Her qualifications include 3 decades of genealogy research experience; 17 years of organizing clients’ stuff, space, and time (in person and virtually); formal education in mechanical engineering, drafting, and fine arts; and more than 20 years as a technology planner at a large telecommunications company.

Continue the Conversation: Networking Session After the Meeting

In lieu of "Networking @Noon" we will host a networking session immediately following the chapter meeting. No extra zoom link is required - just register for the Chapter Meeting and stay logged on after to continue the conversation about the program in an informal group discussion and connect with your chapter colleagues. We hope to see you there!

Note: This program will be recorded for chapter member access only.
